Antoinette “Tonie” Brown

Tonie started dancing at 6 years old at the Hampden Performing Arts Center in Hampden, MA. At age 13 she started her dance training in the preprofessional program at the New England Dance Conservatory in East Longmeadow, Ma. There, her dancing career took off. She attended multiple ballet summer intensives including The Joffrey Ballet School and The American Ballet Theatre. She started her college education at Ohio University in Athens, OH, studying dance performance and choreography. She transferred to Bridgewater State University, graduating in May 2018, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education. During her college career she has choreographed multiple pieces, one in which was presented at the American College Dance Association Conference (ACDA) in Boston, MA, spring 2018. During the Fall of 2018 she attended The National Dance Education Organization Conference in San Diego, California, where she presented her research, “Career Counseling Program in Dance for High School Students”. Currently, Tonie teaches ballet and jazz dance at Matta Dance Extension, in Bridgewater, MA, and Matta Dance Academy, in Brockton MA. She was recently hired through the Bridgewater State University Dance Department as a Guest Artist, working with the undergraduate students to perform at ACDA in Middlebury, VT spring 2020. This is Tonie’s first time Choreographing for Danceworks Boston and second time performer and looks forward to working with beautiful talented dancers during DWB Season 19!
