Marissa grew up in Asheville, North Carolina where she began taking ballet, tap, and clogging at a small local studio. As she grew up, she began training at Center Stage Dance Studio studying ballet, pointe, modern, lyrical, and jazz and had the opportunity to perform in various modern-ballet showcases as a member of the Center Stage Dance Ensemble. After taking a hiatus from dance during high school and performing in musicals, Marissa rediscovered her passion for dance in college at Appalachian State University where she danced in the Appalachian Dance Ensemble and became an apprentice for a local professional modern company, SG Dance Theatre. Currently, Marissa works as a speech-language pathologist when she isn’t spending time with her cat, her roommate’s dog, or in a dance studio. She is very excited for her sixth season with DanceWorks Boston and her first season choreographing alongside her amazing big sister, Taylor.
