Mikaela grew up in North Reading, MA, where she started dancing at the age of 4 at the North Reading School of Ballet. Dance was put on hold for a few years while she tried every sport that existed as a typical indecisive adolescent, however her love for dance reigned stronger than any sport in that exploration. In high school, Mikaela started dancing again at From the Top Dance Center and ended up joining their competition teams for hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary. However, it wasn’t until going to college at Roger Williams University that Mikaela really discovered her own individual style in the RWU Dance Club. The club was student-run, which allowed for incorporation of more sass, attitude, and style than she was used to at a dance studio, and with that she really came into herself as a dancer. Mikaela was a general member of the club her freshman and sophomore year, casted in several pieces each semester, and then the club elected her into a leadership role as Vice President for her junior and senior year. With this position, Mikaela choreographed fun group dances for the club of over 150 members, as well as smaller, more technically challenging pieces. After graduating with a BA in Psychology, Mikaela started working in eating disorder treatment as a mental health counselor. She joined DanceWorks Boston in Season 11 and is looking forward to having the amazing opportunity of now choreographing for the company!
