Ellen McDonald
Ellen first began her dance training at the age of 6 with Falmouth Dance Academy located in her hometown on Cape Cod. She was elevated into competitive dance teams within the Academy and performed in various regional and national competitions in jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop styles. Knowing performing was her true passion, she has also been involved in Falmouth High School’s drama program, the Falmouth Theatre Guild, and the UMass Theatre Guild where she had the opportunity to act, dance, sing, and choreograph. In college, she continued her dance education as a member of Stage Crew Dance Team beginning as a freshman and leading as a Captain and choreographer of the team for her last two years. During a study abroad experience in Santiago, Chile, she also had the opportunity to learn in ballroom styles such as Cha-Cha, Bachata, and the Tango. As a 2016 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst with degrees in Finance and Spanish, Ellen moved to Boston and is working as a Finance Professional in the technology industry. For the past year she has been running dance workshop series with Brit Boilard teaching jazz, hip-hip, and contemporary fusion styles to the local Boston community. She was more than ecstatic to discover the Danceworks Boston community back in Season 13 and can’t wait to return as choreographer again for Season 20! This will be her 7th season dancing with the company, 6th time choreographing, but the first time co-creating a production piece with fellow choreographer Brit Boilard.
